The Vagina Monologues were written and performed for the first time in 1996 by Eve Ensler, who later went on to create the V-Day organization.The monologues were compiled based on Ensler’s interviews and conversations with real women and tell, in some way, the stories of their relationships with their vaginas. The play focuses on female empowerment and honest accounts of women’s experiences–both good and bad–in the modern world.
